Basic Survival Guide

A Basic Survival Guide for Camping

Camping is a very entertaing sport, and a great family activity. However, many people can be frightened by camping and disinclined to attempt it. Camping can be as rural and carefree as you like, but if you are just starting out, you can feel convinced in knowing that camping is also a safe and fun way to spend a vacation.

If you have never been camping before, you may not have all the essential equipment, but don't worry; you shouldn't have to spend a lot of money to get started! Many camping/hiking stores stock all of the items that may require on your camping trip(including Telescopics!). The equipment that you need is actually pretty basic for a simple camping trip; you will need a Tent with enough capacity for the amount of people you're taking on the outing, the same goes for Sleeping bags, food, Clothing etc.

You should have enough food for three meals, plus two refreshments for each day that you will be gone. Large plastic storage bags made especially for camping are available, but you can also use plastic boxes(Which can be purchased from all supermarkets such as; Tesco, Morrisons, Sainsbury's, etc.) with tight fitting covers if you plan to keep your food edible after your many miles of trekking! Another recommended item is a cool bag/box as they are brilliant for keeping your food perfect for eating, a flask is also another good item to take with you on any expedition. You will probably want to pack food that is much simpler to prepare and eat than ther regular home foods, such as a loaf of bread, tuna, breakfast bars, most tinned foods, etc. These can be heated up in a small pot over your campfire.

While on the subject of cooking, a compulsary item to take with you on any trip is a Camping Stove, you can find them at our online store here. Camping stoves are a must for any basic survival kit, as you can cook almost everything on them, such as; tinned foods and boiling water. If you don't want to spend too much on a camping stove, you can also purchase a Steel-Of-Fire which can be purchased in Cadet or Army model, it all depends on howmany strikes you believe you'll use. Once you have your Steel-Of-Fire you now need some Steel-Of-Fire Fuel and some Maya Dust, you can find more details on the How to use the Web-Tex Steel of Fire Page. You can also purchase a Web-Tex Steel of Fire Starter Kit, which includes all of the things that you may need to start a campfire. Once you have all of these utensils you can start a campfire and cook your dinner without having to purchase a Camping Stove, which could work out a lot cheaper in the long run.

When setting up camp, be sure that you are nearby to; toilets, water supply and some firewood - unless you're going true survival style! One of the most important things that you should take with you and your tent is a comfortable and waterproof groundsheet, or another type of covering, such as an air bed.
